Units of data size and data transfer speed may be sometimes confusing... but fortunately, useful user guide is available online :-)

Famous online comics called xkcd came with following funny list of various information size units [xkcd.org]:

Ok, this may sound ridiculous - but it is in fact not so far from reality - see Wikipedia topics Binary prefix, Kilobit, Kibibit, Kilobyte and Kibibyte [en.wikipedia.org] to learn more about kb/Kb vs. kB/KB confusion. This may be old story for veterans of 8-bit home computing back in 1980s' - but the same confusingterminology is still used the days - with RAM modules and telecomunnication services being usually marketed using kilobits and megabits (per second), while mass storage devices and networking software use kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes (per second).
