New release of Prometheus QoS tool offers improved startup times thanks to using iptables-restore utility. It uses much less system resources (CPU system time) thanks to default usage iptables CLASSIFY target (instead of iptables MARK).

Prometheus QoS version 0.7.8 is now available also as (still experimental) Debian packages for i386 and MIPS (routerboard) platform.

This free, open source traffic shaping tool is now being used by at least three major broadband community wireless networks to manage their ISP services. Each of these networks contributes to Prometheus QoS development either source code improvements, or development financing, while providing also valuable feedback from production enviroment. Technical support on commercial basis is also available.

New bug-tracking and concurrent version system, based on Trac/SVN (subversion), is now available to all developers and users.

Prometheus QoS running on average single-CPU, single-core, ~2 Ghz system based gateway router is now know to be capable to handle up to 40 Mbps (full-duplex) of bandwidth and 10 000 packets per seconds, while sharing it among ~2000 IPv4 addresses, categorized into ~1000 traffic classes .
